Hermann von Helmholtz is rightly regarded as the father of ophthalmology
because of his many discoveries and inventions. Amongst his inventions is
the direct ophthalmoscope which allows the fundus of the livings to be
viewed for the first time. This 1994 German FDC was issued to mark his
100th Death Anniversary.
