a. What is this lesion?
Erythema chronicum migrans in Lyme's disease.
The skin lesion typically occurs 5 to 7 days following bites from deer
tick. The initial lesion is either nodular or macular but quickly form
an expanding annular lesion with a red porder and partial central clearing.
b. What is the underlying cause?
Lyme disease is caused by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi.
The vector is the deer tick which injects the bacteria into the host through
its bite.
