Implant extrusion
This 70 year-old man had had a right evisceration
18 months earlier for rubeotic glaucoma following failed retinal detachment
operation. A medpar implant was inserted. He returned to the clinic complained
of a discharging eye and poor fitting of the prosthesis. Examination revealed
extrusion of the orbital implant. Closure was performed using the surrounding
conjunctiva. However, two weeks later the wound became dehiscence (note
the blue vicryl used). Further repair was performed using the upper tarsoconjunctival
flap.
