Choosing a topic will depend on:
-
personal interest vs. interests of others
usually the consultant: your audit topic usually depend on the subspecialty
of your firm. For example if you were in an oculoplastic firm, you may
audit the outcome of basal cell carcinoma excision and in a vitreoretinal
firm the success rate of first time retinal detachment surgery.
-
the topic chosen should be common, significant
or serious problem.
-
there should be a consensus on the best
way of managing the condition that you have chosen.
-
an objective measure should be possible
for the topic you have chosen. For example, postoperative refraction following
cataract to within +/- 1.00D or pressure of less than 20 mm Hg following
trabeculectomy.
-
there should be resources available
for audit & implementation of the condition you have chosen.
