Republic of Haute-Volta Wiley Post (1898-1935) US flight pioneer who set the record for flying around the world in June 1931 (8 days and 16 hours) and July 1933 (7 days and 19 hours). He bought his first airplane in 1925 after receiving injury compensation from an oil company in which he lost his left eye during an oilfield accident. He died in 1935 after crasing his plane in Point Barrow, Alaska. |
