Anniversary of the Death of Nelson. Nelson was fatally wounded by a sniper
during the Battle of Trafalgar in which he defeated the combined naval power of France and Spain. The battle ship in which he died the Victory was towed to Gilbraltar. His body was preserved in a barrel of brandy and sailed to London. On arrival in London, half the barrel of the brandy in which his body was immersed was found to have been consumed by his naval officers. He was buried in St. Paul's Cathedral. |
