A is area of calcification, B area of necrosis and C the tumour mass.
 
 

The above is the cross section of an eye enucleated for retinoblastoma. The optic disc is indicated by ON. What is the prognosis for this patient and why?

Answer
Poor. The optic disc is infiltrated by tumour cells indicated by the
presence of intensely basophilic cells. Chances of intracranial metastasis are greatly increased.
